Anthem / Blue Cross Blue Shield
WebTPA
Health Plans Inc.
Meritain Health
Optum / UnitedHealthcare
Harvard Pilgrim
Tufts Health
Aetna
Maine Community Health Options

Medicare Supplemental plans
Coverage varies by individual plan. Being in-network with an insurance company does not guarantee that every service or clinician will be covered under every plan.
Before beginning therapy, we recommend contacting your insurance company to confirm your behavioral health benefits, deductible, copay or coinsurance, and any other requirements of your specific plan.
Using Insurance for Trauma Therapy
Many people assume that specialized trauma treatment is only available through private-pay practices. We believe access to high-quality trauma therapy should not depend on someone's ability to pay the full cost of treatment out of pocket.
Partnership for Trauma Recovery participates with a broad range of insurance carriers so that more people can access clinicians who specifically understand trauma and its effects on the brain, body, relationships, and sense of self.
Insurance may cover individual psychotherapy for concerns including:
PTSD and post-traumatic stress
Complex and developmental trauma
Childhood trauma
Attachment trauma
Anxiety and depression
Grief and loss
Relationship and attachment difficulties
Dissociation
Shame and self-esteem difficulties
Major life transitions
Other symptoms and patterns connected to traumatic or adverse experiences
Coverage and medical-necessity requirements are determined by your individual insurance plan.
Insurance Coverage for EMDR, Brainspotting and Somatic Trauma Therapy
Our clinicians use a range of trauma-focused approaches depending on the needs of each client.
These include:
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a trauma-focused psychotherapy approach used to help people process traumatic experiences and reduce symptoms associated with PTSD and other forms of psychological distress.
When EMDR is incorporated into a standard individual psychotherapy session, insurance coverage depends on your individual behavioral health benefits and plan requirements.
Brainspotting
Brainspotting is a trauma-processing approach that uses visual positioning and focused attention to help access and process experiences that may be held both psychologically and physiologically.
Brainspotting may be incorporated into individual psychotherapy when clinically appropriate. Coverage depends on your individual insurance plan.
Somatic Trauma Therapy
Trauma does not affect thoughts and memories alone. It can also affect the nervous system, physical sensations, emotional regulation, sleep, relationships, and the body's response to stress.
Our therapists may incorporate somatic and body-based interventions into trauma therapy to help clients develop greater awareness and regulation while processing traumatic experiences.
EMDR and Brainspotting Intensives
Partnership for Trauma Recovery also offers extended EMDR and Brainspotting intensive sessions.
Our current fee for a 120-minute intensive is $300.
These extended sessions are not typically covered by insurance. Please contact us if you are interested in an intensive and would like additional information about cost or scheduling.
MaineCare and Trauma Therapy
Partnership for Trauma Recovery accepts MaineCare for eligible individual therapy services.
Clients with MaineCare who are looking for trauma therapy may be matched with a PTR clinician based on clinical needs, therapist availability, age, treatment goals, and other factors affecting fit.
Because availability changes, acceptance of MaineCare does not necessarily mean that an appropriate clinician has an immediate opening.
Out-of-Network Insurance
If your insurance plan is not one of our in-network plans, you may still be able to receive reimbursement through out-of-network behavioral health benefits.
For eligible out-of-network clients, Partnership for Trauma Recovery can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company.
Reimbursement is determined entirely by your insurance plan. We recommend asking your insurer:
Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
What is my out-of-network deductible?
What percentage of psychotherapy costs will the plan reimburse after the deductible?
Are there restrictions on the type or length of psychotherapy sessions covered?
How do I submit a superbill for reimbursement?
Plans We Do Not Accept
We are currently not in-network with:
Taro Health
Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs)
Medicare Replacement plans
We do accept Medicare Supplemental plans.
If you are uncertain about your plan, contact your insurance provider or contact our office before scheduling.
Couples and Family Therapy
Insurance is not accepted for couples therapy or family therapy.
Couples and family sessions are billed at $150 per hour.
Insurance companies generally structure behavioral health coverage around treatment of an identified individual patient. Our couples and family work is therefore offered as a self-pay service rather than billed through an individual's insurance coverage.
